This day (11:00-17:00hrs) will offer a flexible pattern of tuition covering all aspects of the syllabuses for CertRCO, ARCO and FRCO. An additional benefit is the chance to receive tuition on the organ at St Barnabas Dulwich, the instrument used for ARCO practical exams in London.

Beginning at 11:00 and ending at 17:00, this is an essential day for those sitting CertRCO, ARCO or FRCO in January 2012, and the day will offer valuable help, in an informative and supportive environment, for those whose sights are set further ahead. Teachers of candidates will also find the day beneficial.

Further information and a booking form will be added in due course.

Nestled in a picturesque valley on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors rests Ampleforth Abbey and College...

Nestled in a picturesque valley on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors rests Ampleforth Abbey and College. The Abbey is home to Britain’s largest community of Benedictine monks and its College lays claim to being the foremost Catholic Independent School in the country. At the heart of the lives of both monks and students is the music that forms the backbone to the daily cycle of prayer. The ancient art of Plainsong lies at the centre of this, with Gregorian Chant being sung at Mass, Vespers and Compline each day. The programme for the day will include sessions led by members of the monastic community and staff of the College’s music department on the art of singing and accompanying plainsong, its traditions, its use in the liturgy (with attendance at the mid-day Mass), its use as the basis for improvisation and much more. Participants will be able to hear and play the Abbey Organ (101-stop Walker ) and the College’s 3 other organs. Additionally, the trebles of Westminster Cathedral Choir directed by Martin Baker is giving a concert at the Abbey on the preceding evening, Friday 5 October which RCO Members and others are welcome to attend. Comfortable and good-value accommodation can be provided in the Monastic Guest Houses. We hope that transport can be arranged for participants between York Station and the Abbey.

Further details including the booking form will be posted here when known.
