Two webinars on the FRCO fugal techniques question

Tuesday 29th September 2020 (20:00) – Tuesday 6th October 2020 (21:00)

Are you a candidate for FRCO, considering taking it, or someone, perhaps not an organist, who wishes to expand their understanding of music theory? If so sign-up for this series of two free webinars on the requirements for the FRCO fugue question, taught by Dr Frederick Stocken. The easy-to-use Zoom platform will be used for delivery (click here for video tutorials on using Zoom.).

A small number of places are available for active participants and up to 90 for observers. Active participants will be visible on screen and will be able to ask questions at designated points in each webinar. They will be invited to email examples of their work to Frederick Stocken for discussion in the second session. Whilst such work will not be marked or corrected, as would be the case for one-to-one tuition, Dr Stocken will select examples from submissions for discussion in the next webinar.

Webinar 1: Tuesday 29 September, 20:00–21:00 BST: Review of ARCO fugal techniques topics at FRCO level: finding an answer, writing a countersubject and writing an episode. (If these topics are unfamiliar to you, viewing the recordings of the ARCO fugal techniques webinars on iRCO is strongly recommended). Also considering order of entries, codetta and exam strategies.
Webinar 2: Tuesday 6 October, 20:00–21:00 BST: Review of submitted attempts at FRCO fugue questions, drawing out relevant general points and discussing common pitfalls.

Click here to send an email (, stating the date(s) of the webinar(s) above that you wish to join and saying whether you wish to be an active participant or an observer.

We reserve the right to refuse requests for active participation.
• Requests to join should be received by 16:00 on the day of the webinar.
• Bookings for active participants under the age of 18 should come from a parent or guardian who must be present in the same building as the participant at the time of the webinar.

Please note that these webinars will be recorded and may subsequently be made available for general viewing on our iRCO site. (Access is free to all iRCO resources to RCO Members. Non-members will be asked to pay to view the webinars.)
