Victorian Values - performance class in Clapham, London

Saturday 1st October 2022 (14:00 – 17:00)
St Paul's Church, Rectory Grove, Clapham, London SW4 0DZ

Explore the repertoire parish organists of the later 19th and early 20th centuries would have played, performing on a barely altered instrument from that period, with tips from RCO Accredited Teacher Marilyn Harper.

St. Paul’s Church, Clapham is home to an example of the High Victorian organ as it was developed for parish churches. The comparatively modest stop-list of the 1880 Foster & Andrew's instrument belies great power, with solid eight-foot foundation tone, bold choruses, rich flutes and powerful reeds. Click here for further details and here to download the specification (NPOR is out of date).

What to prepare
Please bring one or two pieces that you can play confidently. Aim for a playing time of no more than 4–5 minutes. The class is limited to six players (CAM level 3/ABRSM grade 5 +) to allow sufficient time for each player. Observer places will be added if and when sufficient player places have been booked. Here are some repertoire ideas.

The venue
St Paul's Church, Clapham is a short walk from Wandsworth Road overground station and Clapham Common tube station. Buses 77, 87 and 425 stop nearby.

Fee: RCO Members £69; Non-members £81
