Playing piano accompaniments on the organ

Saturday 15th June 2024 (11:00 – 14:00)
Bloomsbury Central Baptist Church, 235 Shaftesbury Avenue, London, WC2H 8EP

Organists are often called upon to play anthem or song accompaniments on the organ which were written for the piano. Roger Carter provides valuable tips on how to acquire the skill of knowing how to rearrange what you see on the score to make it effective on the organ and supportive of the singer(s).

What to prepare
A vocal or choral accompaniment (songs, anthems, worship songs) with which you need help. This can be something you have played many times or something which you (may) need to play in the future. Please be prepared to bring six copies so that others in the class can follow the score. We will ask you to let us know what you have chosen a few weeks ahead of the class and may ask you to send a copy by post or email to Roger Carter. Alternatively, take a look at either 'For the beauty of the earth' (Rutter) or 'The Lord is my Shepherd' (Goodall).

The venue
Bloomsbury Central Baptist Church is five or so minutes' walk from Tottenham Court Road underground station. It has a large three-manual organ - click here for the specification.

Fee: RCO Member £70; Non Member £83.
