A great opportunity discover some of the finest organs in Manchester (situated in some wonderful buildings), hear some fantastic playing and attend a Bach Masterclass with Gordon Stewart and students from Chetham's School of Music. There will also be a pipemaking demonstration from Terry Shires.
The day starts at Manchester Cathedral with its new Kenneth Tickell organ, proceeding to the church of The Holy Name (Hill 1871) and St James, Didsbury (1992 Walker, newly installed).
Performers and teachers include: Gordon Stewart, Christopher Stokes, Simon Leach, RCO prizewinner George Herbert and other students from Chetham's School of Music.
10.00 - Meet for coffee at Manchester Cathedral (click here for directions)
10.30 - The new cathedral organ up close – Christopher Stokes demonstrates the new Kenneth Tickell organ from the mobile console.
11:30 - Holy Name Church: superb Hill organ played by Simon Leach (Oxford Road, University of Manchester)
13:00 - Arrive at St James’ Church, Didsbury where a light lunch will be served (click here for map and directions)

14:30 - Bach Masterclass: Gordon Stewart and young organists from Chetham’s School of Music
15:30 - Open Forum: Tom Bell, Simon Leach, Gordon Stewart and Christopher Stokes talk about the possibilities opened up by having the new cathedral organ, and the former RNCM Walker organ in Didsbury.
16:00 - Recital: young organists Ben Collyer and Tammas Slater.
