Music for Special Occasions

Saturday 12th October 2024 (11:00 – 14:00)
Bloomsbury Central Baptist Church

Organists are often called on to bring out a 'big' piece for a special occasion, be it a patronal festival, a particular time of year, a wedding, funeral, memorial service, or concert. In this class, for up to a maximum of six players, RCO Accredited Teacher Julian Haggett, organist of St Peter Mancroft Church - Norwich's civic church - will help you project the music to its full  on the large and colourful organ of Bloomsbury Central Baptist Church whilst remaining calm and in control. Julian teaches regularly in London during term time and is an Associate Lecturer in Performance at Goldsmiths College.

Who can attend
Anyone or grade 6 level and above who is able to play their chosen music confidently. You don't need to be used to playing a large organ—help will be provided. Observer places will be made available once four playing places have been booked.

What to prepare
One longer piece or two shorter pieces suitable for a special occasion. Contemplative music is welcome as much as that in festal style!

The venue
Bloomsbury Central Baptist Church is situated in Central London about five minutes walk from Tottenham Court Road underground station. Many buses stop nearby. Plan you journey at https://tfl.gov.uk/ See the links in the bold text above for the church's website and information about the organ.

Fee: RCO member (player) £70; non-member (player) £83; RCO member (observer) (£40); non-member observer (£50)
