We can all benefit from having our playing observed by someone else from time to time who can spot bad habits of which we may or may not be aware, offer solutions and stimulate us to apply them. This class offers just such an opportunity. Our teacher, Andrew John Smith, Director of Music at St Peter's Eaton Square, studied as a postgraduate with Jacques van Oortmerssen playing the many fine Dutch Baroque instruments. He will provide expert and supportive guidance on everything from posture to pedal technique, and touch to fingering.
What to prepare
Bring your choice of repertoire to play. This may be a single piece or excerpts from several pieces which may or may not be giving you problems in performance. The Richards, Fowkes & Co organ of 2012 at St George's Hanover Square is one of London's finest, with responsive mechanical action and beautifully voiced. Advanced students will benefit from this class as much as those in the earlier stages of learning (grade 5+).
Fee: RCO Members £66; Non-members £77. Observer places (available once four playing places have been booked): RCO Members £24; Non-members £27
