Charter and Byelaws

The Royal College of Organists is governed by its Royal Charter and Byelaws first granted in 1894, and amended in 2003 and 2009.

The 2003 revision resulted in a brand new Charter, granted by Her Majesty The Queen in June 2003, which gave powers to the College very similar those first granted one hundred years ago, but also allowed the institution to move to a new organisational model and location.

The further amendments to the Royal Charter and Byelaws approved by the Privy Council in 2009 ratified the creation of a modernised governance structure suitable for the running of a modern registered charity.
