EVENT DETAILS

Winchester is unusual in having two choral foundations, at the Cathedral and at Winchester College. William of Wykeham, Bishop of Winchester and twice Chancellor of England founded Winchester College in 1382. His statutes make provision for sixteen Quiristers to sing at the Chapel services, and this precious inheritance is still maintained by the College today. The Cathedral is famous the world over for its music and numbers SS Wesley amongst its previous organists. We anticipate the 200th anniversary in 2010 of Wesley’s birth with a talk by his biographer Dr Peter Horton, Reference and Research Librarian at the Royal College of Music. Click here for link to Dr Horton's book.

This day will allow us to explore the buildings, music and musicians associated with each and to hear the College Quiristers under their director Dr Malcolm Archer in concert and the Cathedral’s choir at choral evensong, directed by Andrew Lumsden.

The booking form can be found in the Downloads section of this website. Alternatively email Events (tel 05600 767237) to be sent one.
