The Organ Scholar Experience (TOSE)

Join us in Cambridge in the summer and live the life of an organ scholar! Places still available together with a limited amount of bursary money. For more details read the text below the list of public events.

PUBLIC EVENTS DURING THE COURSE
Members of the public are warmly invited to attend the following recitals and services during the course. Choral Services will be directed and performed by students. Free admission to all events except for the organ recital in Ely Cathedral. For full details including details of all music click here.

COURSE INFORMATION

This is an essential course for those hoping to become organ scholars at university and/or in cathedrals and churches, and is ideal for those who simply wish to gain experience in accompanying and conducting choirs whilst, at the same time, working on organ repertoire and supporting keyboard skills. We shall be resident at world-famous Trinity College with access to its celebrated Metzler organ.

• 45 places available for teenagers age 14–19
• top tips from top tutors in classes, workshops and individual lessons on repertoire, keyboard skills, accompanying, improvisation, plainsong
• sing services of Compline and Choral Evensong in college chapels and Ely Cathedral Lady Chapel
• choral repertoire to include newly-commissioned pieces by student composers
• practising on college chapel organs (many, varied and rewarding!)
• tutor recitals
• student assessment recitals, open to public
• students receive recital awards at cathedrals and churches around the UK
• buzzing social scene and punting
• bursaries available—thanks to The Whitlock Trust (details below)

COMPOSE FOR TOSE

We invite young composers (still at school or undertaking a gap year) to write a short choral piece for performance at the course, either during the concluding Choral Evensong in St John’s College Chapel, or at one of the late-night candlelit services of Compline. For further details Click here.

COURSE FEES

To secure your place on the course you can either pay in full or pay a deposit of £50, the balance of fees being payable no later than 31 May 2014. All fees are inclusive of VAT at 20%.

BURSARIES

If you are applying for a bursary you should only pay the deposit fee when booking on-line. You should then download, complete and return the Bursary Application Form as soon as possible after making your booking and no later than 30 April 2014. You will be notified of the outcome of your application by 15 May 2014. (Post-script at 5.5.14: we shall be able to consider bursary applications until 31 May.)
