Frederick Stocken leads a class designed to help you develop familiarity at the keyboard with harmonic formulas useful for harmonising in the style of Bach. Ideal for those working towards ARCO as too those with a more general interest in harmony.
Previous experience required
You should be confident with the demands of either the CRCO written paper chorale question, or those of ABRSM theory grades 7 to 8, or the relevant exercises in Graded Keyboard Musicianship (OUP) Book 2 (levels 6–8).
The teacher
Organist and composer Frederick Stocken has wide experience of teaching harmony both individually and through an innovative series of webinars for the College (search iRCO on Accreditation/Video/Frederick Stocken). With Anne Marsden Thomas, he is co-author of Graded Keyboard Musicianship (OUP).
The venue
St Giles' Cripplegate Church is in the Barbican Centre, with access either from Fore Street or via the Barbican Centre itself. Nearby underground stations: Barbican, Moorgate, St Paul's.
