RCO scholarship for young organist / choral conductor to attend the August 2010 Charles Wood Summer School

The College is again offering a scholarship jointly with the organisers of the Charles Wood Summer School in Armagh, Northern Ireland, which takes place from Sunday 22 to Sunday 29 August 2010.

The award, which is open to anyone who is in full time education, includes attendance fees, accommodation, two meals per day, and up to £150 to cover the cost of travel and purchase of music and the like. The successful applicant will work with David Hill and Daniel Hyde.

The Summer School programme includes organ, vocal, and choral workshops which run alongside the rehearsals and performances of the Charles Wood Singers, directed by David Hill, and other choirs.

Details of the provisional programme for 2010 can be found here.

A programme of activity will be devised with the scholar in advance of the course to suit their talents and needs.

The ideal candidate will be an organist who has a strong interest in choral work (though who may as yet have little experience as a conductor), who will benefit from spending a week participating as a singer, player and conductor, learning through observation as well as through direct tuition.

If you wish to apply, please send a short curriculum vitae, an outline of how you think you could benefit from the scholarship, and contact details for two referees, at least one of whom should be able to comment on your choral conducting experience / potential.

Candidates should send their applications as soon as possible, preferably by email and by Tuesday 1 June 2010 at the latest, to Simon Williams, Director of RCO Academy, who will also be happy to answer any questions.
