Sir David Willcocks FRCO(CHM), HonRCO (1919–2015)
It is with great sadness that we learnt today of the death of Sir David Willcocks at the age of 95.
Sir David had been a member of the College for almost 80 years. He served on the College's Council and as an examiner on numerous occasions, and held the position of College President from 1966 to 1968.
In 2012, he was awarded the newly founded Medal of the Royal College of Organists for his distinguished contributions over many decades to organ playing, choral composition and arrangement, and choral conducting.
Sir David was a legendary figure whose influence on the nation's musical life has been truly profound. The College expresses its gratitude for his contributions to the professions of organ playing and choral conducting, and for his indefatigable support of the College and its work.
The College sends its condolences to his family.
