RCO and ISM announce partnership

The Royal College of Organists (RCO) and the Incorporated Society of Musicians (ISM) have announced a new partnership designed to increase the breadth and availability of support for organists and choral directors.

The partnership will see the two organisations working together to build and deliver a wide range of services, information and development opportunities for organists and choral directors.

Members of either organisation will also be able to join the other at a 25% discount.

RCO Chief Executive Philip Meaden said: “Recent research found that as many as 7 out of every 10 organists cite their music and musicianship as either a primary or supplementary source of income, which highlights the importance of increasing the professional and vocational support available to our members.

“The Incorporated Society of Musicians is the natural choice as partner for this, and the RCO is delighted to be working closely with the Society in this way.”

Deborah Annetts, Chief Executive of the Incorporated Society of Musicians said: ‘‘We are delighted to confirm our partnership with the Royal College of Organists to increase support for organists and choral directors in the music profession. Our shared aims and values will ensure the very best services are available for these musicians, and we look forward to what will be a fruitful working relationship.’’

The Royal College of Organists supports and represents organists and choral directors of every age and all levels of attainment. As a charity and membership organisation, it is dedicated to promoting and advancing high standards in organ-playing and choral direction.

Its services include support, and advice, advocacy, a comprehensive educational programme and globally-recognised professional and vocational qualifications.

The Incorporated Society of Musicians is the professional body for those working in the music profession and their membership currently stands at approximately 7,000, covering both individual musicians and corporate bodies.

Their individual members include leading conductors, featured and non-featured artists, orchestral musicians working in all of the UK’s leading orchestras, composers, animateurs and arrangers. They support their members with services including expert legal assistance, comprehensive insurance and practical advice.
