HRH The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh

President of the Royal College of Organists Gerard Brooks has written to the College’s Patron, Her Majesty The Queen, to express condolences on the death of HRH The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

“We, the President, Trustee Council and Members of the Royal College of Organists, write to send you and your family our sincere condolences and deepest sympathies on the sad news of the death of your husband, His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh.

“Many Members will recall, with fondness and gratitude, the privilege the College was afforded in April 2014, when a recital to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the institution was given in your and HRH The Duke of Edinburgh's presence at St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle. Mr Thomas Trotter was the recitalist on that occasion, and during the proceedings HRH The Duke of Edinburgh was presented with a gift: a facsimile edition of an organ work by Sir Walter Parratt held in our manuscript archive. The work is the Bridegroom's March composed by Parratt for the wedding of HRH Princess Beatrice and HSH Prince Henry of Battenberg at St Mildred's Church, Whippingham, on 23 July 1885.

“The Duke will be much missed by us all.”
