RCO launches 2022 events programme

The Royal College of Organists has unveiled an exciting mix of online and physical events for its 2022 education programme.

The programme is built around a series of flagship events – RCO Winter Conference, RCO Easter Course, The Organ Student Experience and the RCO Summer Course.

RCO Winter Conference was launched in 2021 to bring the full conference experience into an entirely online package. Under the artistic direction of Andrew Cantrill-Fenwick, the 2022 Winter Conference will run from 17 -20 February.

Celebrity recitals will feature Katelyn Emerson, Jean-Baptiste Monnot and Daniel Moult. There will also be young professional recitals by Freddie James, Ivan-Bogdan Reincke and winner of the IAO-RCO Organ Playing Competition 2021, Wenying Wu.

Names already announced for presentations include Institute of Organ Building, Incorporated Association of Organists, Society of Women Organists, British Institute of Organ Studies and Royal School of Church Music. As well as all of this, an organ teaching strand will feature the ground-breaking new iRCO film series curated by Anne Marsden Thomas MBE and presentations from UK and overseas conservatoires.

Three-day or single day tickets are available, with full details at https://conference.rco.org.uk

RCO Easter Course takes place in Oxford from 5-7 April. It will offer in-depth tuition for those preparing to take CRCO, ARCO or FRCO and for those considering entering in the future - as well as a Repertoire and Skills strand for those who already play to diploma standard.

Simon Williams, the artistic director for this course which is resident at Merton College in Oxford, will be joined by guest teachers Martin Schmeding and Robert Sholl, amongst others.

The RCO’s 2022 Overseas Study Trip will see our students heading to Denmark from 8-12 May with artistic director Richard Brasier and guest teacher Bine Bryndorf. Venues for their visit include Copenhagen Cathedral, Roskilde Cathedral, Frederiksborg Castle and St Mary’s Church Helsingor.

The Organ Student Experience (TOSE) takes place in Oxford from 26 -31 July. Directed by Daniel Moult, this popular course for ambitious teenage organists of grade 7 standard and above offers expert tuition in repertoire and technique, keyboard skills, choral conducting and accompaniment and is ideal for students considering organ study at university or conservatoire.

Teachers for this event include Thomas Trotter, Janette Fishell and Sarah Tenant-Flowers.

RCO Summer Course will be taking place in London from 1-6 August. Known as ‘the big course with the personal touch for all stages and ages’, this event includes group and individual tuition in repertoire, technique, keyboard musicianship, theory, aural, improvisation and much more.

This event is under the artistic direction of Andrew Cantrill-Fenwick with masterclasses will be run by Dame Gillian Weir, Daniel Moult, Tom Bell and James Johnstone.
